Chipmakers, technology companies, and researchers explored new opportunities for cooperation in Qingdao on Oct 10, as the city brought its semiconductor industry into focus at a national technology conference.

The 20th Semiconductor and Integrated Technology Conference took place in Qingdao West Coast New Area, Shandong province, focusing on technological innovation and industrial development.

An integrated circuit industry cooperation meeting held alongside the conference featured presentations on the city's integrated circuit industry, including developments in the Qingdao Area of the China (Shandong) Pilot Free Trade Zone (Qingdao FTZ).

At the meeting, SiEn (Qingdao) introduced its semiconductor manufacturing platforms, while Haier and Hisense outlined their chip requirements across various applications. Three experts and representatives from 10 companies also shared their perspectives on industry development.

Qingdao FTZ is home to a dedicated integrated circuit industrial park that has attracted 63 companies operating in chip design, manufacturing, packaging and testing, materials, and equipment.

The park has ranked among China's top 30 integrated circuit industrial parks for three consecutive years.

By the end of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–30) period, the park's integrated circuit industry is projected to reach more than 30 billion yuan ($4.48 billion).
