Dongying in East China's Shandong province has taken a major step toward greener logistics with the rollout of a new initiative in the Dongying Economic and Technological Development Zone. The first 50 new-energy heavy-duty trucks were officially delivered, alongside a signing ceremony with CATL to build a dedicated battery-swapping station.

The trucks offer a driving range of more than 300 kilometers and can complete a full battery swap in just five minutes, making them ideal for industrial-park operations, short-haul routes, and other high-frequency transport needs. The broader plan includes deploying 200 trucks in total and constructing supporting infrastructure such as an integrated solar-plus-storage system, an upgraded modification workshop, and a display center to support future development.

A defining feature of the initiative is the "vehicle–battery separation" model. By purchasing only the truck body and leasing the battery, companies can significantly lower upfront costs and reduce the impact of battery price fluctuations — improving both affordability and efficiency.

Together with CATL's centralized charging and swapping facilities, the effort aims to build a comprehensive green logistics ecosystem that brings together clean transport, energy services, and smart logistics management.
Dongying plans to use this momentum to strengthen collaboration with surrounding regions, share practical experience in new-energy logistics, and support broader goals for carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.
