The China-Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Local Economic and Trade Cooperation Demonstration Area, known as SCODA, has launched an extravaganza of cultural, tourism, sports, and business promotional activities.

The summer carnival, lasting until Sept 23, will stage nearly 50 events, including a media think tank forum, a culture and tourism promotion week, cultural and art performances, special commodity promotions, sports and leisure gatherings, and the pearl garden festival of SCO.

According to the SCODA Administrative Committee, the summer carnival is designed to promote people-to-people exchanges among the SCO countries and lay a solid cultural foundation for the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative.

The China-SCO Countries Culture and Tourism Promotion Week was launched on July 28 along with activities such as the 6th SCO Countries Chinese Calligraphy Competition and the 2023 SCO Media Think Tank Forum.

The Qingdao SCODA Pearl International Expo Center, the city's new landmark, is staging various themed activities such as music performances, sports and leisure events, a garden festival, and a camping festival from July 29 to Aug 13.

Beer tents, food markets, and entertainment areas have been set up to meet the diverse needs of residents and tourists and provide convenience.

Consumption vouchers worth more than 1 million yuan (about $139,191) will be issued during the SCODA summer consumption festival to stimulate consumers' purchasing appetite and promote the recovery of the economy.

Eighteen music activities will be staged during the SCODA summer music season.
