Qingdao's Chengyang district has been taking steps to improve the living environment of its rural areas.

The district has set aside approximately 160 million yuan in financial awards and subsidies to improve infrastructure, optimize public services, develop specialty industries, and improve livability of its rural area. A total of 28 demonstration villages have been completed to date.

The renovation around the Dongtie Community Reservoir is one of the results of district's rural makeover effort. The area around the reservoir was originally covered with soil slopes and overgrown with weeds. Thanks to the 5.5 million yuan provided, the local community has been able to carry out maintenance, renovation and beautification works over the last three years. A park has also been built around the reservoir.

In Wangjiacao Village Community, a large LED screen has been placed in the center of the community square to display information about community matters.

In 2023, Wangjiacao Village Community was selected as a pilot project for rural comprehensive reform.
