The coastal city of Qingdao in East China's Shandong province will cultivate high-quality productivity and focus on areas such as the deep sea to boost its marine industry. It has already outlined a development blueprint focused on maritime development.

The Qingdao municipal government work report describes the maritime industry in great detail. Qingdao has also emphasized the city's capacity for maritime scientific and technological innovation and the competitiveness of its maritime industry clusters.

The marine biological and medicine industry, one of the six major key maritime industries in which Qingdao has heavily invested, has gradually become the leading industry in Qingdao. The city's rich biological and genetic resources have paved the way for the development of Qingdao's marine economy, with the Antarctic krill being a prime example. In this vertically segmented field, Qingdao is witnessing the emergence of an increasing number of high-growth enterprises, which are driving Qingdao's maritime development.

In order to become a maritime hub at both the national and provincial levels, Qingdao has consistently adhered to a policy-guided approach, constructing a broad framework for its maritime endeavors.

The city has rolled out an array of supportive measures to support the high-quality development of its maritime economy. Under the city's "15 Policies for Maritime Industry", Qingdao has allocated a cumulative total of 94.42 million yuan ($13.13 million) in assessed incentive funds over the past two years and selected the first group of high-growth maritime enterprises. Among the 20 listed enterprises, the newly-established ones have boosted the high-quality development of the city's marine industry.
