Qingdao sees tourism surge during Chinese New Year celebrations
Qingdao was a major destination for international tourists during the 2025 Chinese New Year holiday, with inbound tourism reservations rising by 108 percent compared to the previous year. This surge can be attributed to the expanded 240-hour visa-free policy, which has attracted international visitors eager to experience the festive culture of the Spring Festival season.
One of the city's top attractions, the Tsingtao Beer Museum, is among those to see an increase in international visitors, with many coming to taste the authentic Tsingtao beer. The museum remains a favorite among tourists seeking to experience the city's rich brewing heritage.
The city's festive events, such as the Qingdao Radish, Lantern Festival, and Sugar Ball Fair in Dabaodao Cultural and Leisure Block, also captivated tourists. Traditional sugar balls, featuring hawthorn fruit coated in sugar, delighted with their fusion of sweet flavors and Chinese culture. Many foreign tourists were spotted taking photos with these festive treats, adding to the lively atmosphere.
International tourists also explored the city's iconic sites, including Zhongshan Road, Xiaoyu Mountain, and the Badaguan scenic area. They ventured further to enjoy local activities, from watching seagulls at Zhanqiao Pier to experiencing marine tourism at the Olympic Sailing Center. The city's markets, offering fresh fruits and local delicacies, also drew interest.
As the city attracts more international visitors, Qingdao is solidifying its reputation as a must-visit destination for those seeking an authentic Chinese New Year experience.
