Month-long extravaganza to celebrate Shandong's intangible cultural heritages

The Shandong Provincial Department of Culture held a press conference on Jan 9 to disclose the main arrangements and schedule of the upcoming month of celebrations of the province's rich intangible cultural heritages.

The protection and Smriti work of the province's precious cultural legacy was also introduced at the press conference.

To start on Jan 20, the activity is the second of its kind held in Shandong and will last until Feb 27, with more than 800 events, shows and performances being offered across the province. It is expected to attract audiences of more than 17 million.

The opening ceremony

According to the Shandong Provincial Department of Culture, the opening ceremony for the intangible cultural heritage celebration month will be held on Jan 18 at Lishan Theater in Jinan, the province's capital city.

Varied performances of more than 20 state-level and provincial-level intangible cultural heritages are to be staged at the opening ceremony, including Mount Taishan shadow play, southwestern Shandong's percussion music, Shandong Bangzi opera (wooden clapper opera), and Lv opera and acrobatics; all supplied by intangible cultural heritage inheritors.

Photographic tour

Jointly organized by the Shandong Provincial Department of Culture, the Shandong Provincial Commission of Tourism Development and the Shandong Female-Photographer Association (SFPA), the photographic tour is designed to produce featured folk art photo books as well as pictorial records of the special month. Photo exhibitions featuring the province's intangible cultural heritages will also take place.
