Mount Tai is China's most renowned sacred mountain, with exceptional historic, cultural, aesthetic and scientific value. The mountain boasts 12 historically recorded imperial ceremonies in homage to Heaven and Earth, about 1,800 stone tablets and inscriptions, and 22 temples, making Mount Taishan the most important monument in China, a world-renowned treasure house of history and culture.

It is also a heaven-sent habitat of various plants and animals, with 20 thousands of vegetation covering 80 percent of the mountain. With its significance in culture and nature, Mount Tai was officially added into of the list of UNESCO cultural and natural heritage in 1987, as the first group of nominations in China approved by UNESCO.
