Green development empowers Tai'an's high-quality growth

Tai'an city in Shandong has been accelerating the green transformation of its development models, aiming to achieve high-quality development.
Energy transition is a key task for Tai'an's new industrialization. Focusing on the development of new quality productive forces and the construction of new energy sources, Tai'an is developing its own industrial image such as becoming the capital of energy storage, Taishan lithium valley, and photovoltaic highlands. The rapid development of the new energy industry has laid the foundation for a distinct advantage in the new energy industry system.
In 2024, Tai'an's new energy sector generated 80.6 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, accounting for 37.9 percent of the total annual electricity generation and a 19.62 percent increase year-on-year. Green and efficient new energy has gradually become a new driving force for local economic development.
Tai'an city is accelerating its pace of technological innovation and has established various science and technology innovation platforms throughout the city.
Currently, Tai'an city has one national key laboratory, two provincial technology innovation centers, and 15 provincial-level new research and development institutions. The city has solved 320 technical problems, transformed 213 scientific and technological achievements, facilitated 176 industry-academia-research cooperation projects, and established 61 new collaborative research and development platforms between universities and enterprises.
In the first three quarters of 2024, the output value of high-tech industries in Tai'an accounted for 66.8 percent of the total industrial output value of scale-above industries, exceeding the provincial average by 14 percentage points and ranking second in the province.
