Pudong New Area in East China's Shanghai will make continuous efforts to promote the development of integrated circuits, biological medicine and artificial intelligence (AI) this year, and the output value of strategic emerging industries will account for more than 45 percent of the area's total industrial output, said Hang Yingwei, governor of Pudong New Area.
Chipmaking is one of Pudong's six major industries. Semiconductor Manufacturing International Co, or SMIC, one of the biggest contract chipmakers on the Chinese mainland, started constructing a new plant in the Lin-gang Special Area in Pudong. The new plant is expected to drive the whole chip industry chain in Pudong.
Pudong will make breakthroughs in key and core technologies and promote a digital transformation this year.
The Shanghai Data Exchange, which was unveiled in Pudong on Nov 25, 2021, will promote the development of the digital economy and address the major difficulties in data trading as well as help Pudong build an international data hub and a data exchange base to establish standards and systems regarding data trading, communication and management.
Data processing, evaluations, and exchanges will be further promoted this year in relative industries, and efforts will also be made to advance a digital transformation in manufacturing, service and agricultural industries.
Pudong will further strengthen its industrial chain and build an advanced manufacturing industrial cluster featuring six major industries that include chipmaking, AI and big data.
