Rails linking Shanghai's Pudong and Hongqiao airports complete gradual speed test
Rails linking Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport have recently completed a gradual speed test, reaching a record speed of 176 kilometers per hour, according to Shanghai Shen-Tie Investment Co.
The test, following an elaborate scheme and emergency plans, evaluated vehicle stability, track quality, and catenary smoothness. The top speed surpassed the line's designed 160 km/h, ensuring safety and compatibility across systems.
The 68.6-kilometer line will traverse three districts — Minhang, Xuhui, and Pudong New Area — with nine stations. Upon completion, it will reduce travel time between Pudong and Hongqiao airports to around 40 minutes, proving convenience for residents and tourists along the line. It will also strengthen Shanghai's position as a key transportation hub and better serve the city cluster in the Yangtze River Delta region.
