Pudong facilitates IP transactions to boost innovation
Shanghai's Pudong New Area has taken advantage of the Shanghai platform for the international operation of the State Intellectual Property Operation Public Service Platform to promote cross-border intellectual property transactions, financial innovation, industrial operation and intellectual property protection.
Improving the market-based pricing and cross-regional transaction mechanisms for intellectual property is one of Pudong New Area's key reforms.
As the strongest innovation hub in China, the Yangtze River Delta region had more than 1.3 million invention patents by the end of 2023, accounting for 31.9 percent of the national total. By offering services such as providing information and matching transactions, the platform has boosted the intellectual property trading market within the Yangtze River Delta region.
While strengthening integrated services, the platform has also accelerated the industrial application of scientific and technological research achievements.
Official data indicates that in 2023, the platform facilitated over 200 transactions with a total value of around 6.7 billion yuan ($933 million), showing significant growth in both transaction volume and value. In the first half of this year, the platform provided authentication services for 177 transactions, with a total value of more than 4.7 billion yuan, continuing a steady growth trajectory.
By deepening cooperation with the BIC Euronova, the platform is advancing the cultivation and incubation of international scientific and technological projects, supporting enterprises in establishing a firm foothold in the global market. It is also collaborating with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization to promote exchanges and cooperation on domestic and foreign technology transfers.
