Pudong Chinese New Year Cultural Festival set to open
The first Pudong Chinese New Year Cultural Festival will bring folk performances, intangible cultural heritage (ICH) markets, and food tastings to Shanghai's Pudong New Area, blending tradition with modernity.
The festival, featuring five themed zones, will take place along the Lujiazui waterfront from Jan 31 to Feb 9.

The event will bring together more than 100 specialty food brands from across China, while ICH traditions will come alive along the Lujiazui waterfront. Performances such as the Sanlin dragon dance and datiehua (molten iron fireworks) will run for 10 consecutive days.
The festival will also showcase authentic Shanghai flavors from iconic local brands. From Shanlin red sausages to time-honored treats from Changchun food store, all the neighborhood classics will be there.
In addition, traditional costume experiences will be available on-site, allowing visitors to dress in Hanfu and stroll among the skyscrapers. Visitors will also have the chance to get hands-on with traditional crafts — from pounding rice cakes to creating sugar paintings — and enjoy classic folk games like solving lantern riddles.
More than 30 popular content creators will participate in the event, engaging with audiences through interactive sessions and creative performances. In the documentary life festival zone, visitors will be able to enjoy Suzhou pastries, take photos with limited-edition art installations, and receive free luggage tags for sharing posts on social media.
