A total of 23 traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) departments in North China's Shanxi province were recently included in the national list for TCM advantageous specialty construction by the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, with two TCM departments included in the national list for TCM advantageous specialty cultivation.

Among them, Shanxi Traditional Chinese Medical Hospital's cardiovascular department, spleen and stomach disease department, and pulmonary disease department as well as the Hospital of Shanxi University of Chinese Medicine's cardiovascular department and neurology department were included in the national list for TCM advantageous specialty construction. 

Furthermore, Yuncheng Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine's cardiovascular department and Xinzhou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine's rehabilitation department were included in the national list for TCM advantageous specialty cultivation.

In recent years, the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine has established 1,496 national key TCM departments, 426 national clinical key TCM specialties, and 221 regional TCM diagnosis and treatment centers in 31 provinces, districts and cities nationwide. The departments are located in TCM hospitals at the provincial level, city level, and county level, forming a national network of TCM departments.

After years of efforts, the departments and specialties have boosted the overall level of the hospitals across the country and driven the improvement of the regional TCM service capabilities through technical cooperation, targeted assistance, and other means.
