Shanxi education builds new 'Silk Road' for intl exchanges
The Shanxi Provincial Education Department has formulated the "Shanxi Province Action Plan for Promoting Education under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI)", promoting Shanxi's educational cooperation and exchanges with countries involved in the BRI.
On Dec 28, 2024, Taiyuan University of Technology held the annual Kabul University Confucius Institute Council meeting, both online and offline. Established in January 2008 through a collaboration between the two universities, the institute has enrolled 729 students.
Graduates have been involved in Sino-Afghan exchanges, with some alumni working in international organizations, embassies, and government departments in Afghanistan. The Chinese director of the institute, Wei Guoqiang, highlighted these achievements.
Tian Fengjuan, director of the International Division of the Shanxi Provincial Education Department, stated that the department is promoting the participation of Shanxi's universities in the BRI Education Alliance, and has signed cooperation agreements with universities in South Korea's South Jeolla Province, the Czech Republic's Moravian-Silesian Region, and Ulyanovsk in Russia.
In recent years, the department has focused on establishing the "Study in Shanxi" brand. Over 1,400 international students are studying in Shanxi, including around 1,100 students from countries involved in the BRI.
The department also encourages university teaching, research, and administrative staff to apply for overseas study programs, promoting educational activities and technological cooperation in countries involved in the BRI.
