The five-episode international documentary series, Tales of Guan Yu, premiered on Dec 22, tracing Guan Yu's evolution from a historical figure into a revered icon and delving into the core values of loyalty, righteousness, benevolence, and courage that he embodies, vividly showcasing the spiritual essence of Chinese civilization.

The fourth episode, "The Supreme Sage" (Zhisheng Zhizun), highlights the significance of Guan Yu as a cornerstone of Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) military culture. Qi Jiguang, a famous general in the dynasty, depicted Guan Yu on his army's flags, hoping his troops and vanguard would charge bravely into battle and achieve victory. For the border soldiers, Guan Yu was not only a "God of War" on the battlefield but also a guiding light in life, inspiring them to resist invaders and protect their homeland.
