Focusing on intelligent, green, and integrated development, Shanxi province has made significant strides in industrial transformation by upgrading traditional sectors and advancing emerging industries to establish a modern industrial system.

A major initiative has been the intelligent development of coal mines, a key task in the province's comprehensive energy reform. Shanxi has completed the construction of 400 intelligent coal mines, with advanced production capacity now accounting for 83 percent of the total.

The province continues to enhance the technology and scale of its wind, solar, storage, and hydrogen energy sectors. By the end of 2025, Shanxi's new energy power generation reached 1,180 billion kilowatt-hours, marking a 26 percent year-on-year increase.

Focusing on emerging industries, Shanxi has established 59 national and provincial AI innovation hubs. The province has nurtured 76 advanced-level, and five excellence-level smart factories. From January to October 2025, revenue from six key sectors, including software and IT services, grew by over 20 percent year-on-year, driving digital economic growth.

The province's industrial chains, specialized towns, and development zones are working together to build a robust industrial ecosystem characterized by collaborative innovation and integrated resources. In 2025, revenue from provincial industrial chains exceeded 700 billion yuan ($100.52 billion), with leading enterprises forming clusters in sectors like equipment manufacturing, digital economy, modern agriculture, and ecological tourism across 93 development zones.

This year, Shanxi aims to accelerate the formation of a modern industrial system that reflects its unique strengths and competitive advantages, ensuring a strong start to the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30).
