Updated: 2020-02-05

A truck loaded with 2,000 liters of hydrogen peroxide disinfectant left Yangmei Chemicals and New Materials Co in Qingxu county in Taiyuan on Jan 31 -- bound for the frontline of the battle against the novel coronavirus outbreak, a company spokesman said.

The shipment marked another contribution being made by Yangquan Coal Industry Group's chemical subsidiaries, to help with epidemic's control and prevention.

To ensure medical supplies in northern Shanxi province are arriving on time during the critical period of the virus infection prevention and control, Yangquan Coal Industry Group -- based in Yangquan city -- handed out a series of orders.

It told its chemicals subsidiaries to continuously disinfect and sterilizate products and contact local governments in these counties and cities where they are located for donations.

The chemical companies affiliated to Yangquan Coal Industry Group have a total daily production capacity of 1,620 metric tons of hydrogen peroxide solution and 80 tons of calcium hypochlorite, two vital disinfectants and sterilization products.

Yangmei Chemicals and New Materials Co -- based in Qingxu county in Taiyuan -- is the largest hydrogen peroxide production enterprise in Shanxi province.

A company spokesman said it had all its employees on duty and has been manufacturing hydrogen peroxide solution continuously, while boosting its own virus infection prevention and control.

Currently, all hydrogen peroxide solution produced by the company has been donated to the Shanxi Department of Industry and Information Technology, which deploys hydrogen peroxide solution to the frontline of the battle against the epidemic in Shanxi.

Zhengyuan Chemical Co, the chemical subsidiary of Yangquan Coal Industry Group in Pingshan county in Hebei province, has the capacity to formulate hydrogen peroxide for medical use and has been rushing to organize production.

On Jan 31, the company donated 10,000 liters of disinfectant to Pingshan county government's command center for epidemic control.

It also contacted the government departments of Shijiazhuang, capital of Hebei province and the Red Cross in Hebei Province to assist with hydrogen peroxide disinfectant worth 200,000 yuan ($28,562).

Another subsidiary, Hengtong Chemical Co in Linyi city in Shandong province, has committed itself to increasing the capacity of emergency disinfection and sterilization supplies.

It arranged four special trucks to transport donations of 200 tons of calcium hypochlorite for virus control, despite transport difficulties encountered during the Spring Festival holiday.

Apart from implementing various prevention and control measures and carrying out donations, Yangquan Coal Industry Group has also selected medical staff members from its hospital to join Shanxi's first medical aid team to go to Hubei province, epicenter of the outbreak in China.
