Huayang Group – based in Yangquan city, North China's Shanxi province – marked a significant milestone in its commitment to green mining and sustainable development on Sept 2.

Emphasizing the country's dual carbon goals, the company has made substantial progress in improving its coal mining operations – focusing on reducing carbon emissions, lowering pollution and increasing green areas.

At Huayang's second mine, a new 1,040-meter-long enclosed belt conveyor system has been installed, which effectively manages waste without spillage and minimizes dust emissions.

Locals say they've noticed significant improvements in air quality, with much clearer skies visible at night.

Huayang Group has also elevated its environmental standards by adopting energy-efficient, low-carbon and clean production technologies.

Since 2020, the company has introduced 100 electric buses and 80 electric heavy trucks and retrofitted 47 gas-fired generators for emissions controls.

The group's combined heat and power project at the mine, utilizing low-concentration gas, is said to have become a model for reducing greenhouse gases and fossil fuel consumption.

Since 2020, the project has recycled over 68 million cubic meters of gas and cut CO2 emissions by an estimated 830,000 metric tons.

In December of 2023, the initiative was recognized as an outstanding green low-carbon development practice.

Elsewhere, Huayang Group is continuing to enhance its water treatment processes, turning wastewater into a resource for production and environmental management.

The company is dedicated to increasing the efficiency of its gas extraction and expanding its utilization – aiming to fully utilize coal mine gas resources.
