Yangquan paves unique path to boost tourism
Yangquan has in recent years been driving the high-quality development of its cultural and tourism industries through a strategic framework known as "Three Pillars, Multiple Supports", part of the "3+3+N" strategy.
The first "3" focuses on the in-depth development of three major flagship scenic spots: Niangzi Pass, Cangshan Mountain, and the Shinao Mountain Hundred Regiments Offensive Memorial Park.
Niangzi Pass is celebrated both as a military stronghold and a romantic site, while Cangshan Mountain is renowned for its spirit of loyalty and righteousness, as well as its breathtaking Taihang cliff landscapes, which showcase a harmonious blend of nature and culture.
The second "3" highlights Yangquan's strong cultural, industrial, and scientific resources. The city aims to enhance its reputation as the "First City of the Chinese Communist Party" by offering "Top 10 Red Tourism Routes”.
Yangquan is also dedicated to creating industrial tourism landmarks that are enjoyable and thought-provoking, such as the 1947 Yangquan Memory Museum. It has hosted two editions of the "Shanxi • Yangquan Liu Cixin Hometown Sci-Fi Culture Week", established the Liu Cixin Sci-Fi Literature Museum, and promoted the integration of sci-fi, popular science, and science education.
The "N" refers to the concept of leveraging ancient villages and utilizing the Taihang No 1 Tourism Highway to develop rural tourism, allowing farmers to benefit from tourism without leaving their hometown.
Digital innovation in Yangquan, exemplified by various "Cloud Tour Yangquan" initiatives, is also being used to enhance industry development. For instance, tourists can scan a QR code along the Taihang No 1 Tourism Highway to enjoy real-time scenic views online while experiencing the journey in person.
Yangquan is also developing specialty items like organic grains and selenium-rich produce, as well as creating cultural performances that highlight local cultural and geographical features.
