French food group Savencia has participated in the China International Import Expo, which takes place every November in Shanghai, for five consecutive years and debuted many new products.
"We're confident about the Chinese market, and we're glad to see that the Shanghai consumers are very accepting of foreign food, which creates opportunities for us," said Fan Haode who was in
charge of Savencia's booth at the expo.
Many of Savencia's products have been frequently seen in Shanghai's upscale restaurants, such as 8½ Otto e Mezzo BOMBANA, a high-end Italian restaurant located at the Bund.
The chef of the restaurant said that the CIIE has made available a wider range of imported food ingredients in the market and, this has made it easier to run the business.
According to the CIIE Bureau, the expo's food and agricultural products exhibition area always has the largest number of enterprises and visitors. At the fifth CIIE, 1,076 enterprises from more than 100 countries and regions participated in the food exhibition.
According to reports released by Meituan, a Chinese shopping platform for consumer products and retail services, the number of foreign restaurants in Shanghai grew 18 percent year-on-year in 2021. In the first half of 2022, the number of high-end restaurants in Shanghai reached 885, the highest in China.
