Shanghai's Hongqiao International Coffee Harbor is significantly enhancing the global presence of Yunnan coffee, known for its floral aroma, fruity notes, and mild bitterness.
The coffee hub has established a 180-square-meter exhibition and trade area dedicated to Yunnan coffee, showcasing products by coffee producers from Yunnan province.
The "Handshake Beans", a premium collaboration between Shanghai and Yunnan, has gained prominence as the exclusive coffee for the China International Import Expo city services and barista certification exams, boosting Yunnan coffee's brand value.
The Hongqiao Import Commodity Exhibition and Trade Center, also known as Hongqiao 365, where the coffee harbor is located, is also broadening Yunnan coffee's reach across China through its 33 branches and live streaming platforms.
In 2023, the harbor partnered with Pu'er Judian Laboratory to host the world's largest coffee cupping event, attracting over 700 international Q-Graders and covering 10 Yunnan production areas. This event led to procurement agreements exceeding 1 billion yuan ($137.71 million) in value, providing a major boost to Yunnan's coffee industry.
In 2024, 18 Yunnan coffee beans participated in the inaugural "China Selection" Global Green Bean Competition held at the harbor, winning two "Outstanding Awards" and two "Consumer Favorite Awards". The Cup of Excellence (CoE) will hold its pilot event in Yunnan, establishing exclusive trade channels with global purchasers for Yunnan coffee beans.
Today, Hongqiao International Coffee Harbor hosts coffee from over 60 countries and more than 100 coffee enterprises from Yunnan, linking over 1,000 specialty coffee shops, driving trade worth over 3 billion yuan, and establishing a comprehensive "seed to cup" industry chain.
