Guangyuan farmers harvest persimmons

Late autumn is a harvest season for persimmon farmers in Shuguang, a village in Longtan township in the district of Lizhou, Guangyuan of Southwest China's Sichuan province.

Villagers are busy gathering the fruit and drying it to make snacks. It's their important source of income.

Meanwhile, many tourists have visited the small village to enjoy personally picking ripe persimmons from trees.

Longtan has fully optimized its climate, soil quality and transport strengths to develop its rural tourism industry, which encompasses agritainment, fruit picking and sightseeing, over the past years. So far, it has built 15 fruit gardens with 3,500 mu (33.3 hectares) of arable land in total.

In addition, the local government has made headway in encouraging farmers to grow other fruits such as pear, fig, peach and pomegranate.

The fruit tree plantations have increased the annual per capita income of local farmers by about 2,000 yuan ($312.8).
