A multi-functional complex project has become the most popular leisure place for villagers in Zengjia town of Chaotian district, Guangyuan, Sichuan province. People often gather in small groups, spending their free time in reading, watching movies, playing the piano or dancing.

"We offer regular folk art performances and photography exhibitions, in a bid to enrich local people's life," said an official of the town. "Villagers can come over to study, relax themselves and have fun."

Supporting facilities are already trickling in, including a gateball center, a recreational vehicle camp, a traditional Chinese medicine health center. In addition, three artistic creation bases were built.

Over the past few years, Chaotian district ramped up efforts to construct cultural activity facilities in rural areas. To date, the district's 139 villages  have had their own broadcast rooms and bookstores. Zengjia town also become home to 25 sports venues and 38 sports facilities.
