A two-day natural rock climbing competition was held in the Jianmen Pass Scenic Area in Jiange county, Guangyuan, Southwest China's Sichuan province on July 9.

Fifty climbers in the men's and women's groups will compete for the gold, silver and bronze medals.

At the opening ceremony, Xu Jun, vice president of Sichuan Mountaineering Outdoor Sports Association, awarded Jiange county the first natural rock climbing training base in the province.

Rock climbing is a sport that integrates competition, fitness and viewing. Jianmen Pass scenic area was chose as the venue for the competitions for its highly representative, naturally formed steep mountains with beautiful scenery.

"We will endeavor to hold marathons and fishing sports later, to further promote the local tourism," said an official of the county's government.
