Sports stadiums should open to the public for free or charge a low fee

In the first half of 2022, the public sports venues of Guangyuan, Sichuan province served 757,000 people for free or by charging a small fee, with a total allocated fund of 4.04 million yuan ($599,536), said the local sports authority on July 20.

Accordingly, the local six sports venues should open to the public for no less than 35 hours a week for free or at a low cost, and for no less than 330 days a year. They should also open for no less than eight hours a day for free or at a low cost on weekends, national holidays, National Fitness Day, and school winter and summer vacations.

In addition, the outdoor public areas and outdoor fitness equipment of these venues are free to open for no less than 12 hours a day. The free and low-cost opening hours should cover the peak hours such as morning and evening.

These facilities should also fully open to the public free of charge on the National Fitness Day that falls on Aug 8 every year.

The Guangyuan Aoyuan Sports Center's gymnasium, stadium and swimming pool provide more than 20 sports activities, including basketball, football, tennis, aerobics dance, and gateball. They are available free of charge or at a low cost.

The GSB said that it will coordinate with relevant departments so it can make good use of the subsidy funds and further improve the functions of the venues.

In addition, more efforts will be made to apply for project funds for maintenance and renovation.
