On Aug 28, a dozen of Sichuan takins were captured by a camera in the Tangjiahe area of the Giant Panda National Park. They are foraging during their journey migrating from high-to-low-altitude areas.

A takin family moving together in the park is seen in the video. The group consists of a male, two or three females, five new-born cubs and one or two sub-adults.

"Sichuan takins have a unique nursery behavior, that is, females gather their cubs-- new born cubs or sub-adults born in the previous year -- to be taken care of by one or two adult takins," said a staff member in Tangjiahe, adding that this behavior can help reduce the energy expenditure of other individuals in the group.

Every year in July and August, Sichuan takins will climb to the alpine zone above 3,000 meters above sea level for courtship. When frosts come in September, they then choose to live in valley shrubs.

However, some stubborn ones will stay in alpine belt. Thus in different seasons, these animals can be seen in mountains ranging from 900 meters above sea level to 3,500 meters above sea level.

Tangjiahe is home to 1,300 Sichuan takins, which is the largest group of wild herbivores in the area.
