Guangyuan sees improved air, water quality

The environment of Guangyuan, Sichuan province, further improved this year, according to a press conference on its environmental condition held on Sept 9.

As of the end of August, the percentage of days with good air quality was 97.9 percent in Guangyuan, the average concentration of hazardous airborne particles (PM2.5) was 24.4 micrograms per cubic meter. Both ranked fourth in the province.

The city was invited to the main event of the 2022 National Low-Carbon Day to share its experience on the construction of a low-carbon city. Previously, the Guangyuan Economic and Technological Development Zone was selected as a pilot project for a near-zero carbon emission park in the province.

The water quality of all major rivers here, including Jialing River, Bailong River and Nanhe River, have reached Class I.

In addition, more than 86 percent of the city's towns have now built sewage treatment facilities, and the coverage rate of rural domestic waste collection, and the transfer and disposal system has reached 100 percent.

Guangyuan was the first in the province to build a centralized recycling and disposal system for agricultural film waste, with a recycling rate of 88.32 percent. The city has been listed among the first batch of national-level domestic waste classification demonstration cities.
