Fifty pairs of newlywed couples celebrated the New Year holiday at the millennium-old Jianmen Pass scenic area in Jian'ge county, Guangyuan, Sichuan province, on Dec 30.

Men and women dressed in hanfu, traditional garments of the Han ethnic group, went through a group wedding ceremony under the guidance of a host. The participants performed ancient rites, which included drinking from nuptial cups, knotting their hair and writing the characters yuanyang. Afterwards, they went to Guanlou, a gate tower in Jianmen Pass, to offer wine and pray for blessings.

The newlyweds are young talents on the frontline of rural revitalization, pandemic prevention, knowledge imparting and project engineering. Excelling in different positions, they have injected vitality into the county's economic and social development.

"I am very happy to have joined in with today's event. I have now experienced a festive and sincere Chinese-style wedding with everyone, and it has been an unforgettable experience," said a man surnamed Wang during the ceremony.

Marriages are a strong force in exchanges with the outside world. Jian'ge county has continuously offered preferential policies to young talents to attract them to build a family there.
