Wangcang, a county of Guangyuan in Southwest China's Sichuan province, held a promotional event for its homegrown tea at the West Lake in Hangzhou, capital city of East China's Zhejiang province, on Mar 9.

Wangcang boasts a sound natural environment, favorable climate and unique soil, all of which are conducive for the plantation of high-quality tea. Early in the Han and Tang dynasties, the cultivation of tea and the development of relevant business thrived in the county.

In his speech at the ceremony, Tang Wenhui, secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Committee of Wangcang, said that the county had successfully developed a set of tea-making techniques and fostered diverse, high-quality tea.

Over the past few years, Wangcang has intensified its efforts to develop its tea industry and cultivate homegrown tea brands.

So far, the arable land for tea plantation in Wangcang has surpassed 250,000 mu (16,666.7 hectares). Micang Mountain Tea, one of the principal tea brands of the county, has featured in the Top 10 Sichuan Tea Brands, been recognized as a China National Product of Geographical Indication and received the golden prize in the International Premium Tea Competition.

According to China's National Center for Tea Quality Inspection and Testing, the Guangyuan-style yellow tea has been found to have relatively high deposit of lutein, carotene and amino acids.

The promotional ceremony brought together experts and scholars in the tea sector.

Two tea enterprises also signed a strategic cooperation deal on the production and sale of tea at the event.
