Song Chunxiao, an athlete from Guangyuan of Southwest China's Sichuan province, was elected as one of four members in a rowing delegation of Sichuan at the upcoming Chengdu FISU World University Games, according to the Guangyuan Municipal Bureau of Sports on July 15.

Song, 22, comes from Wenchang township in Cangxi county. He joined Guangyuan Municipal Amateur Sports School in October 2015 and started to receive professional training with the Sichuan Professional Men's Rowing Team after winning a gold medal in the men's single sculls in the rowing regatta of the 13th Sichuan Provincial Sports Meeting in 2018.

Song and his teammates clinched two gold medals in two men's single-scull events in the preliminary round of the 2nd National Youth Games in May 2019.

In April of this year, Song entered Group One of the National Rowing Team and came second place in the men's single sculls of the 2023 National Spring Rowing Championship in Hangzhou, East China's Zhejiang province.

In addition, Song also attended the second leg of the 2023 World Rowing Cup in Italy in June.

As the only athlete from Guangyuan at the Chengdu FISU World University Games, Song is undergoing training in the Qiandaohu Lake area of Zhejiang and will return to Chengdu to attend the upcoming international sports event in late July.

During an interview, Song said that he looks forward to the Chengdu FISU World University Games and hopes to make new breakthroughs in his performance.
