On Oct 14, 490 pieces of products made in Guangyuan, Sichuan province -- including kiwi fruits and hot pot bases -- left the city on a high-speed rail train at about 5:00 am and arrived at the province's capital, Chengdu, one hour and 54 minutes later.

At 8 o'clock sharp, staff members of China Railway Express Chengdu Station have delivered kiwis to the local branch of an agricultural products supply and marketing group. "The delivery is so fast," said the person in charge surnamed Fang. "The order placed by the customer last night arrived early this morning!"

"We used to use road transportation, which basically took seven or eight hours, but now the transportation cost has been reduced by nearly 200 yuan per ton." Liu Xiuqin, deputy general manager of the agri products supply and marketing, said they will return the saved profits to front-end suppliers and source cooperatives and that would benefit the customers.

The Guangyuan high-speed railway, the first of its kind in the province, was launched on Sept 28. It is now running daily.

"The stable operation of this train will further improve the overall logistics efficiency of Guangyuan and gradually form an industrial ecosystem integrating fresh cold chain, cross-border e-commerce, biopharmaceuticals and intelligent manufacturing," said Chen Ran, general manager of Guangyuan International Railway Port Construction and Development Co.

A Guangyuan high-speed railway express train has sent 44 tons of homegrown goods, including bamboo shoots, walnuts, beverages, and more to their destination.
