This is a major event for Guangyuan city, which is known as the "gateway to northern Sichuan and the throat of ancient Shu Road".

Guangyuan is at the intersection of the four major urban traffic arteries: Chengdu, Xi'an, Chongqing and Lanzhou. It is also a significant portal for the Chengdu-Chongqing twin-city economic circle and the Guanzhong-Tianshui Economic Zone.

It has five expressways and four railways intersecting within the territory. The China-Europe Express (Chengdu-Chongqing) passes through the city.

In the first half of the year, Guangyuan's regional gross domestic product (GDP) was 54.91 billion yuan ($7.50 billion), a year-on-year increase of 4.3 percent. The corresponding figure for tertiary industries, including logistics, stood at 24.68 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 4.6 percent.
