Migratory birds converge in Guangyuan for winter

These days, various migratory birds have been spotted in the Tangjiahe area of the Giant Panda National Park in Guangyuan, Southwest China's Sichuan province. They include the coots, mallards, Chinese pond-herons, and the white-tailed eagles.

In the past five years, more than 10 species have been recorded stopping by Tangjiahe area during the autumn and winter seasons.

According to bird watchers, the white-tailed eagle arrived in mid-November in the first three years and left in early March the following year. This year, this species was first recorded on Nov 1, which is about 15 days earlier than previous records.

Tangjiahe has promoted tree planting. After 45 years of efforts, the forest coverage in the Tangjiahe area has reached 96.15 percent. In addition, the area has adopted various measures such as biodiversity monitoring, infrared camera monitoring, and bird ringing for conversation.

At present, the number of bird species there has increased from 310 to 374.
