Wang Chao, a ranger in the Tangjiahe area of the Giant Panda National Park, was busy preparing for his patrol early on the morning of May 10.

He was dressed in camouflage and carried a special backpack filled with recording sheets, rulers, sterile gloves, sampling bags, dry food, water and a camera. With his telescope slung over his shoulder, Wang set out.

The Tangjiahe area is located in the Minshan Mountains at the southern foot of the Motian Ridge. Its 40,000 hectares are renowned as "one of the areas with the highest wildlife encounter rates in the world," home to over 3,700 species of wild animals and plants.

The daily work of the rangers not only provides critical data for evaluating and making decisions about the effectiveness of conservation efforts in Tangjiahe, but also ensures the safety of its wild inhabitants.
