In the past 5 years, Tianjin accelerated the construction of transportation infrastructure facilities to facilitate the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, regional economy and industrial layout and improve people's livelihood. The transport network is gradually improved and the city better serves as a transportation hub at the intersection of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st century Maritime Silk Road.
Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei will be well connected by railways. Beijing-Shanghai high-speed Railway, Tianjin-Qinhuangdao Railway, the extension of Beijing- Tianjin intercity Railway and Tianjin-Baoding Railway were put into operation. The layout of cargo distribution channels in the south and north Tianjin will be optimized. The construction of the Jizhou-Tianjin port railway, Beitangxi- Xin'gangbei railway, Xin'gangbei container station, Dabeihuan railway and the Northwest ring railway were completed. Tianjinxi, Tianjinnan, Binhai and Yujiapu
railway stations were put into use. 280km of railways were built in the past 5 years. The length of railways in Tianjin reached 1,267km by the end of 2017.
Tianjin is sparing no effort to construct its ports and airports. The new terminal of the second phase of Binhai International Airport and the second runway were put into use and passengers can use 6 means of transportation without transfer. It will adjust the layout of the Beijiang and Nanjiang ports. A group of key port facilities were put into use, such as the first and second phases of Tianjin Port’s 300,000-ton waterway, the second phase of the international cruise terminal, the wharf for Sinopec's liquefied natural gas, the iron ore wharf at No. 26 of Nanjiang Port. The city accelerated the construction of expressways. The second phase of Tanggu-Chengde expressway, Beijing-Qinhuangdao expressway, the first phase of Tangshan-Langfang expressway, West outer ring-Lin'gang expressway, Jishan expressway were built. 144.6km of expressways were added to the transport network. 205.5km of the Tangshan-Tianjin, Beijing-Tianjin-Tangshan expressways were renovated. The total length of expressways in Tianjin reached 1,245km.
Tianjin is constructing a rail transit network. By the end of April, 2018, there were 5 subway lines in operation — Lines 1, 2, 3, 6 and 9. They greatly eased the pressure of ground transportation and brought convenience for people.
