Tianjin University of Finance and Economics (TUFE), established in 1958, is one of the earliest universities in China to provide specialized higher education in finance and economics. At the time of founding, the faculty of TUFE came as a result of the relocation of that from the Business School of Nankai University, along with some well-known professors from several other prestigious universities in the Northern and Northeastern parts of China. 

Covering an area of around 1,000,000 m², TUFE has over 15,000 full-time students. It is a multidisciplinary university with economics and management education as its core competence while embracing diverse branches of learning, including humanities, science, law, engineering, education, arts, etc. It is a major university among the municipal universities in Tianjin, as well as an important education base in the Northern part of China for cultivating prominent and practical talents in business and management. In December 2017, TUFE was included in the Tianjin Government Supporting Program of Constructing High-level Universities with Distinctive Features.

TUFE has 3 authorized doctoral degrees of Level one Discipline and post-doctoral research stations, 9 authorized master's degrees of Level 1 Discipline and 13 professional master's programs. A comprehensive education system with different models has been formed at various levels, including doctoral, master's and bachelor's education, continuing education, international students education, and practice qualification education.

Actively promoting international cooperation, TUFE is among the first batch of universities to conduct joint educational programs with foreign universities and confer American MBA degree. In 2017, the MBA and EMBA programs obtained AMBA accreditation. The university is also one of the first two exam centers of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) in China, which is awarded as one of the six platinum level learning providers in China by ACCA headquarters. At present, more than 700 international students from 38 countries are studying for bachelor's, master's and doctor's degrees, and conducting language learning and short-term exchange visits.

TUFE was awarded an honorary title of National Top University with Typical Experience in Graduates' Excellent Employment Performance by the Ministry of Education of China.
