In January 2001, three vocational colleges of Tianjin Light Industry merged into Tianjin Light Industry Vocational Technical College. It was then registered by the Ministry of Education and approved by the Tianjin Municipal People's Government as a public full-time general institute of higher education. It is affiliated to Tianjin Bohai Light Industry Investment Group Co., Ltd.
Located in Tianjin Haihe Education Park on the coast of the Bohai Sea, it covers an area of 866 mu and has a building area of 190,000 square meters, accommodating more than 8,500 students. It has six majors, namely digital design and advanced manufacturing, intelligent equipment automation, new energy and energy-saving technology, information and intelligent technology, creative product design and promotion and modern service and management. In addition, it has 32 higher vocational majors and two joint training undergraduate majors.
It has three domestic-leading majors: mold design and manufacturing, photovoltaic power generation and application, and e-commerce. In recent years, the employment rate of graduates has been above 97 percent.
The school has established 11 on-campus training centers with 11 world-renowned or industry leading enterprises such as GF Group, Carl Zeiss, Gamesa, Mitsubishi Elevator and Yingli, and has 165 off-campus practice bases.
Since 2008, the school has hosted the National Vocational Students Skills Competition related competitions for 12 consecutive years, hosted the construction of a national-level teaching resource library in new energy, and achieved a total of 13 national and municipal teaching achievement awards.
It has held innovation and entrepreneurship competitions, and established a maker space recognized by the Tianjin Municipal Education Commission as an A-level (excellent) university-level maker space for two consecutive years.
On the basis of the National Scholarship, the Tianjin Municipal Government Scholarship, the National Encouragement scholarship, and the National Grants, the school has established the university scholarship and grants and seven well-known corporate scholarships, including the German Phoenix Scholarship, the LG Scholarship, the Swiss GF Scholarship and the Yingli Scholarship. It provides more than 8 million yuan annually in rewards and grants.
The school actively carries out international cooperation and exchanges, and has established cooperation with 43 educational institutions, universities and internationally renowned enterprises from New Zealand, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden and other countries, and has received 500 people in 58 domestic (foreign) delegations.
