Founded by the Telecommunication Industry Bureau of the Second Ministry of Machine Building of the PRC in 1953 as "291 Technical School", Tianjin Electronic Information College was named a national model higher vocational college in 2018 and was recognized as a national high-quality school according to the action plan of the Ministry of Education in 2019. 

The college consists of five teaching schools of Computer and Software Technology, Electronics and Communication Technology, Mechanical and Electrical Technology, Digital Art, and Economics and Management, and two teaching departments of Public Education and Humanities and Social Sciences.
