Tianjin welcomes African vocational education officers

Some 58 vocational education officers from 18 African countries visited Tianjin Light Industry Vocational Technical College to be briefed on the Luban Workshop – a project providing vocational training to African youth under an initiative launched last year by China in partnership with African nations.

The initiative was launched during the opening ceremony of the 2018 Beijing summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

Dai Yuwei, secretary of the college CPC committee, gave a briefing to the visitors on the Luban Workshop and its operations in such countries as India and Egypt.

Initiated in Tianjin, Luban Workshops to date have been have been built in eight countries including Thailand, the UK, India and Indonesia to meet the industrial needs of their respective countries.

They combine academic education with vocational training in a bid to train people needed for developing the local economy and for furthering social development.

After the meeting one member of the South Sudan Parliamentary Education Committee said that she was inspired by the lecture because her country urgently needed a complete education model to help them train technicians.

She said her colleagues were very willing to see a Luban Workshop take root in their country.

The head of a vocational school in Ghana, said that their country is vigorously pursuing the development of vocational education.

He said his colleagues were very willing to learn from the Luban Workshop model and said they hoped that more teachers can be sent to their schools for guidance.
