The 24th edition of China's flagship vocational training program – the Luban Workshop – was unveiled in Uzbekistan's capital Tashkent on Sept 7.
The Uzbekistan Luban Workshop – which was spearheaded by Tianjin's local government and jointly established by Tianjin Maritime College (TMC) and Tashkent State Transport University (TSTU) – plans to support the "Digital Uzbekistan-2030" strategy with a focus on information technology and logistics management.
Odil Abdurakhmanov, head of Uzbekistan's Department of Social Development and rector of TSTU, delivered a warm welcome speech at the opening ceremony.
Tianjin Municipal Party Committee Secretary Chen Min'er visited the workshop's teaching center to assess the facilities, review training methods and teaching materials, and gauge the effectiveness of practical lessons by talking with local teachers and students.
Chen reaffirmed Tianjin's commitment to sharing expertise, maximizing the strengths of vocational education and tailoring resources to meet local needs. The workshop, he said, not only provides professional skills training but also acts as a cultural bridge between China and Uzbekistan.
Chen said he hoped that more Uzbek students would engage with the Luban Workshop going forward, broadening their career horizons and fulfilling their aspirations. He also extended an invite for students from Uzbekistan to visit Tianjin for deeper cultural exchanges and to further strengthen the friendship between the two countries.
As part of the event, TMC and TSTU signed cooperation agreements with a number of major enterprises, including China Civil Engineering Construction Cooperation, the China Energy International Group, Beijing Jingdong Qianshi Technology, and Tianjin Tianhe Computer Technology.
Agreements were also signed with Tianjin University and Tianjin University of Technology for integrated training programs for international students in China.
The event was attended by representatives from relevant government departments, colleges, and enterprises from both Uzbekistan and Tianjin.
