Xizang autonomous region's cultural and tourism sector delivered strong results in 2025, reflecting both its cultural vitality and growing global appeal.

From January to November in 2025, the region welcomed 69.48 million domestic and international visitors, up 10.74 percent year‑on‑year, with total tourism spending reaching 79.83 billion yuan ($11.43 billion).

Libraries across Xizang received nearly 520,000 visitors, while more than 100,000 cultural events benefited over 16 million residents, significantly increasing public participation in such events and enhancing the quality of life for residents.

Artistic creation also flourished. Over 1,000 new or adapted works were produced by regional troupes, with more than 30 pieces earning national or provincial awards.

The Mapu Tsho relic site was named one of China's top 10 new archaeological discoveries, and major exhibitions drew strong attention. Xizang also recognized 122 new intangible cultural heritage practitioners, strengthening efforts to safeguard tradition.

Cultural tourism has become a powerful engine for rural vitalization. Featured study‑tour routes and village tourism projects brought 310,000 farmers and herders into the sector, raising incomes by nearly 5,000 yuan per person.

International engagement expanded as well, with six delegations sent abroad and 140 overseas travel professionals invited to Xizang. Inbound tourism reached 71,000 visitors, a 25.54 percent increase, while both visitor satisfaction and willingness to return exceeded 87 percent.

Looking ahead to 2026, Xizang aims to deepen cultural‑tourism integration, targeting 78 million visitors and 90 billion yuan in tourism revenue as it advances toward its long‑term development goals.
