Xizang's GDP grows 6.3% in first half of 2026

Xizang's GDP exceeded 155.55 billion yuan ($22.99 billion) in the first half of 2026, up 6.3 percent year-on-year.

The output value of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and fisheries reached 10.01 billion yuan in the first half, up 8 percent year-on-year.

Value-added industrial output from industrial enterprises above the designated size — those with annual revenue of at least 20 million yuan — rose 20.9 percent year-on-year, ranking first nationwide. Clean energy accounted for 96.2 percent of power generated by above-designated-size power generation enterprises.

Fixed-asset investment increased 1.7 percent year-on-year, with private investment rising 15.7 percent. Retail sales of consumer goods totaled more than 47.39 billion yuan, up 3.6 percent.

Per capita disposable income for all residents reached 14,406 yuan, up 7.8 percent year-on-year, 2.6 percentage points higher than the national average. Per capita disposable income for urban and rural residents increased 6.6 percent and 8 percent, respectively.

The region's economic activity remained supported by steady demand and supply as total electricity consumption rose 15.5 percent to 9.73 billion kilowatt-hours, while passenger turnover and freight turnover increased 7 percent and 4.5 percent, respectively. The consumer price index rose by 0.7 percent.
