Xita Street in Heping district in Shenyang city, capital of China's Northeast Liaoning province, reopened to the public on Sept 27 after months of renovation, offering locals and visitors a new feast of culture and tourism.
After the upgrade, the street has become a Korean style nighttime city block integrating catering, shopping, tourism and entertainment services.
Traditional cultural performances -- such as the Korean-style waist-drum dance and Peking Opera -- are being staged to entertain visitors with ethnic cultural and artistic experiences. Korean ethnic foods are also being prepared in Xita Street, to get visitors closer to Korean cuisine.
As one of the featured food streets of Shenyang, Xita Street has been placed on a list of 50 national must-see streets for those who like to eat for two consecutive years since 2019.
On the reopening day, Heping district's bureau of commerce and leading Chinese food delivery giant Meituan, held a ceremony heralding the Xita Street as a "must-eat" block.
Visitors can have a free taste in some 10 featured restaurants in the street upon registering and applying for free meals on the restaurant review app Dazhongdianping.
As more people visit the street at nighttime, Xita Street has become a vital tourist hotspot for the fall nightlife. It has 60 catering stores still open after midnight every day, which is an epitome of a promising nighttime economy in Shenyang.
According to statistics from Meituan, Shenyang's night-time retail market has recovered significantly since March, with total nighttime spending by consumers exceeding the level of the same period last year.
