After more than two years of renovations, China's first commercial pedestrian street – Shenyang Zhongjie Street in Shenyang city, capital of Northeast China's Liaoning province – will reopen to the public with a fresh, new appearance.
The nearly 400-year-old Shenyang Zhongjie Street has row upon row of old buildings, which contain profound historical heritage and cultural elements, and have witnessed Shenyang's commercial development.
During the renovation, Shenyang combined historical and modern appearances and carried out protective renovations on eight relatively complete historic buildings along the street. The city also integrated cultural elements into public facilities such as road lamps, tables and chairs and garbage bins.
The renovated Zhongjie also features smart facilities and services, including self-service sharing equipment, smart public toilets and intelligent trash cans.
