On July 12, the World Internet Conference (WIC) was officially established. It was jointly launched by the Global System for Mobile Communications Association, the National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Center of China, the China Internet Network Information Center, Alibaba, Tencent and Zhejiang Lab. Headquartered in Beijing, the WIC is committed to promoting global internet development and governance, joining forces with international parties to build a global platform for high-level dialogue on the internet.
The WIC Wuzhen Summit has been held since 2014. Each year, more than 1,000 representatives from about 80 countries and regions come to Wuzhen, a beautiful water town in Tongxiang, East China's Zhejiang province, to attend the summit. This year, it attracts over 2,000 representatives from more than 120 countries and regions. These attendees come from governments, international organizations, leading internet enterprises, trade associations and academic institutes across the globe.
The 2022 WIC Wuzhen Summit features a main forum and four events — the release and presentation of "outstanding cases of jointly building a community with a shared future in cyberspace"; the release ceremony of the 2022 world's "leading internet scientific and technological achievements"; the 2022 Light of Internet Expo; and the "Straight to Wuzhen" global internet competition. The summit has achieved fruitful results in four areas: enhancing consensus, strengthening dialogue and exchanges, promoting industrial development, and boosting scientific and technological innovation. It has become a high-level platform for sharing and governance of international internet industries, as well as digital economy exchanges and cooperation.
To date, institutions, organizations, enterprises and individuals from about 20 countries on six continents have joined as the organization's initial members. They include world-renowned internet enterprises, authoritative industry organizations and those inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame. They have witnessed, promoted, led and contributed to the global internet development and will play a more important role in the WIC.
This platform, while initiated in China, belongs to the world and is shared by the internet family.
