Bytedance owned lifestyle-sharing platform Lemon8 hits the US App Store's top 10 downloaded apps this week amid ban discussions of Bytedance's Tik Tok, surpassing Youtube, WhatsApp, Gmail and Facebook.

Combining elements of Pinterest and Instagram, the new app allows users to post long posts with pictures and videos, on various topics such as fashion and travel.

The app has rapidly grown into one of the largest online communities in Japan and Southeast Asia since its debut in March 2020. In March this year, it started operations in European and American markets.

According to app data provider Apptopia, Lemon8 has been downloaded about 16 million times worldwide since its launch, with 38 percent of total downloads coming from Japan. Apptopia estimated that the app has over 4.25 million monthly active users in the US.
