At age 100, Wang Yuqin, a resident of Ningbo, Zhejiang province, has jumped on the bandwagon of online shopping.

Because it's so convenient, Wang started teaching himself about it this year.

"One is never too old to learn. I want to keep up with the trends," he said. "The online shopping platform is pretty good. It can be personalized and has a variety of goods."

Although he's a newcomer to the scene, Wang quickly became familiar with all shopping procedures and has purchased many snack foods — candy, pastries and dried longan fruit.

On Saturday Wang rode his three-wheel cycle to a nearby courier station to pick up his parcel — a box of pastries he had bought on an e-commerce platform several days ago. Workers at the station had waited at the door to help him check the pickup code and secure the parcel to his three-wheeler.

"He's the first centenarian I've ever seen pick up parcels on his own. And he bought all these himself online. Amazing!" said Niu Ermei, a worker at the station.

For Wang it was another satisfying shopping experience.

"As senior citizens in China, we are so happy," he said as he shared some pastries with his 96-year-old wife.
