China-Africa cooperation is currently making new progress, especially in the field of technology.

For example, Huawei recently announced Uganda's first 5G digital cement factory project with a Uganda company in Kampala, capital of Uganda, Botswana and Chinese enterprises declared their collaboration to promote an intelligent diamond mining project; and the first overseas technology center of the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences was unveiled in the Republic of the Congo (Brazzaville). The "technological content" of China-Africa cooperation is facilitating African countries' development to a higher level.

Chinese technology injects "new momentum" to poverty reduction and agricultural cooperation between China and Africa.

Located in the eastern part of the African continent, the Republic of Burundi has abundant rainfall and is suitable for rice cultivation. However, the country has long been plagued by food shortages as local rice varieties have low unit yields.

China has been implementing a senior agricultural expert cooperation program in Burundi to provide technical support since 2009. Over the years, Chinese expert teams have worked extensively in the field and farms across 15 rice-growing provinces in Burundi. They have successfully selected and introduced eight rice varieties suitable for local conditions, resolving the historical challenge of rice blast disease causing yield reductions or even crop failures in mountainous areas. "China's use of agricultural technology to support targeted poverty alleviation is beneficial and serves as an instructive example for other developing countries," said an expert on international affairs from Kenya.

Chinese technology injects "new strength" to China-Africa capacity building cooperation.

The importance of talent in economic development is self-evident. The vocational education in Africa has been weak, with insufficient funding, and lagging skills training.

Since the establishment of the first Luban Workshop in Djibouti in March 2019, China has built over 10 Luban workshops in Africa. These workshops have facilitated the development and innovation of vocational education in Africa and received widespread acclaim.

China has long supported the construction of educational infrastructure in Africa, provided opportunities for education and training, and cultivated various types of applicable talent. This has effectively enhanced African countries’ capabilities to develop independently and played a crucial role in promoting social stability and economic development on the continent.

Chinese technology provides "new engine" for China-Africa cooperation in digital innovation.

Chinese enterprises' technological and experiential support in such areas as e-commerce and financial technology has become a crucial engine in driving economic recovery of African countries in the post-pandemic era. African products, such as Ethiopian coffee, Rwandan chili sauce, Kenyan tea, Ghanaian chocolate and Tanzanian cashews, are reaching thousands of Chinese households through cross-border e-commerce platforms.

The digital innovation program is one of nine major programs established at the Eighth Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

Based on the FOCAC, the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo (CAETE) is playing an increasingly important role with a focus on e-commerce. The upcoming third CAETE, to be held in Changsha, capital of Central China’s Hunan province, will host an online shopping festival of African products, promoting more high-quality African products to the Chinese market.

The improvement of China-Africa technological cooperation is a true reflection of China's full implementation of the principle of sincerity, real results, friendship and good faith, and the principle of pursuing the greater good and shared interests. China-Africa cooperation has kept pace with the times, with collaboration in various fields having expanded with the support of emerging technologies.

In the future, China and Africa will deepen cooperation in various fields, further promote the integration of the Belt and Road Initiative with Africa's development strategies, jointly promote high-quality development and achieve more fruitful results to benefit more African people.
