Nearly five billion people are active on social media, accounting for 60.6 percent of the world's population, according to a report by Agence France-Presse. However, some regions still lag behind, with only one in every 11 people in Central and East Africa using social media.

China's new network communication standard approved by ITU

The standard proposal of a method for the performance monitoring of the Segment Routing IPv6 (SRv6) network, submitted by Smart Grid Research Institute Co., Ltd. under the State Grid Corporation of China, has been officially approved by the International Telecommunication Union in Geneva, Switzerland. SRv6 is a hot technology in the international network communication field and also one of the key technologies for computing power networks.

US AI giants promise to manage risks of new AI tools

The White House announced on July 21 that seven leading US artificial intelligence (AI) companies have agreed to voluntarily take safety precautions to manage the risks of new AI tools while competing to harvest the potential of AI, The New York Times reports. 

University of Tokyo introduces latest 3D printing technology

According to its website, researchers at the University of Tokyo have combined 2D printing, origami, and chemical methods for the first time to create the rapid manufacturing of 3D objects without generating any waste. The new method allows materials to be automatically folded within a few seconds.

UNESCO warns against excessive use of technology in classrooms

The UNESCO has warned that if education heavily relies on technology, it could interfere with students' acquisition of basic skills, such as reading, making such education futile and potentially harmful, according to a report on the phys.org website. 

AI semiconductor market to grow 50 percent annually

AMD CEO Lisa Su said in an interview that the semiconductor market for AI will grow at an annual rate of 50 percent over the next three to four years.
